Patients often leave comments at the bottom of my videos asking: Is there any chance of treating scoliosis in adults? In fact, there is no need to worry too much, scoliosis can be treated as an adult, but it is more difficult to treat than when you were a minor, so don’t give up on treatment just because you are older. First of all, patients can undergo a full-length X-ray examination of the spine to determine the extent and location of the scoliosis. For some patients with relatively mild scoliosis and not very severe symptoms, symptomatic conservative treatment methods such as exercise can be considered. For patients with more severe scoliosis and more severe symptoms, surgical treatment is usually used, such as corrective internal fixation surgery can effectively correct the scoliosis deformity, with some post-operative functional rehabilitation training can further strengthen the stability of the spine and restore the normal physiological activities of the spine. It is worth noting that patients undergoing surgery need to have good cardiopulmonary function, and if scoliosis causes cardiopulmonary dysfunction, there is an increased risk in surgery, so we advocate early detection and treatment of scoliosis patients.
