Can you eat chocolate with gout?

Gout patients can eat chocolate. Chocolate is a low purine food and its consumption will not increase the level of uric acid in the body of gout patients. However, because chocolate is rich in cocoa, which has a stimulating effect on the autonomic nervous system and may trigger acute attacks of gouty arthritis, chocolate should be consumed sparingly. Chocolate is rich in sugar and fat, and most gout patients have metabolic syndromes such as hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia and obesity, so frequent consumption of chocolate can lead to these metabolic syndromes not being easily controlled. Gout patients are encouraged to eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, and drink more water, mainly plain water and light tea, to help lower blood uric acid levels.
