Whether a thyroid nodule grows unilaterally or bilaterally has no clinical significance for the assessment of the overall condition, except that if a bilateral multiple thyroid nodule needs surgery once it is removed, it will be more extensive. For example, if one side of a bilateral thyroid nodule is malignant, the risk of malignancy of the nodule on the other side will also be higher, so surgery is usually recommended to remove all the nodules bilaterally. In the case of isolated nodules that are more extensive and growing, bilateral thyroidectomy may also be required. Therefore, it is important to classify nodules according to their benign and malignant nature. Benign nodules are not life-threatening, while malignant nodules require early treatment.
