How long does it take to recover from abnormal liver function

How long it takes to recover from abnormal liver function varies from person to person and is related to the cause of the abnormal liver function, the severity of the condition and needs to be staged in relation to the patient’s specific situation. Liver function abnormalities are divided into two main causes: physiological and pathological. If the abnormal liver function is caused by physiological reasons, such as eating greasy food, strenuous exercise, taking other drugs, drinking alcohol, etc., it can recover on its own after the corresponding reasons are removed, which only takes about 3-7 days. If the liver function abnormalities are caused by pathological reasons, the recovery is more slow and varies with the cause and course of the disease. For example, in patients with cirrhosis or advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, liver function abnormalities cannot be completely restored to normal; in the case of liver function abnormalities caused by biliary stones or infection, liver function can be gradually restored to normal after removing the stones or controlling the infection, which may take only a few weeks. If abnormal liver function is found, it is important to go to the hepatology department of the hospital in time to clarify the cause of the disease and then carry out targeted treatment.
