Whether a fetal malposition can be delivered by normal delivery depends on the maternal age, the number of births, the pelvis and the size of the fetus, etc. Generally, normal delivery is not recommended. The fetal malposition is usually transverse and breech position. In case of malposition, the fetus weighs less than 2,500 grams and not more than 3,500 grams, and the fetus is not in transverse position, a trial of labor can be performed, but the chances of successful trial of labor are very small. Usually, in the middle of pregnancy, if the fetus is found to be in a breech position, it can be corrected by knee-chest position according to medical advice. However, during the trial of labor, the cephalic position can also be converted to other fetal positions, such as occipital left anterior position. Therefore, even if the fetal position is cephalic, it is not completely possible to have a normal delivery. Whether a pregnant woman in malposition can have a normal delivery or not is determined at the early stage of labor to decide the mode of delivery. If vaginal delivery is not possible, the pregnancy can be terminated by cesarean section.
