Soft tissues include the body’s skin, subcutaneous tissue, muscles, muscle bonds, fascia, ligaments, joint capsules, periosteum and nerves, blood vessels, etc. Any of these tissues are called soft tissue injuries if they are subjected to strong impact, twisting, pulling or compression in daily life, or if they are injured for various reasons such as weakness or chronic overexertion over a long period of time.
Soft tissue injuries are classified as sprains and contusions depending on the cause of their occurrence. A sprain is an injury or tear to the soft tissues around a joint caused by excessive twisting and stretching of the fascia, muscles and ligaments around the limb and joint as a result of the force applied to the joint.
A contusion, on the other hand, is a direct injury to the soft tissues at the site of injury caused locally by an external blow or impact to a human limb.
