What are the specialties for bipolar disorder at Peking University Sixth Hospital?

Disease Description Bipolar disorder is a group of clinically common, chronic and disabling disorders characterized by recurrent episodes of depression and mania. As a complex affective disorder, bipolar disorder is one of the hot spots of psychiatric research at home and abroad. According to epidemiological data, the lifetime prevalence of bipolar disorder in the population is about 1.5-3%, and the results of WHO survey on disease burden show that bipolar disorder is the sixth most disabling disease among people aged 15-44 in both developing and developed countries. As scientific research progresses, a wide range of disorders characterized by mood swings that do not yet meet the diagnostic criteria for bipolar disorder have been classified as “bipolar spectrum”, such as cyclothymic disorder and elevated mood personality. Because of the complexity and variability of bipolar disorder, clinical information is inadequately collected, resulting in difficulties in identification and intervention, poor treatment outcomes, repeated and prolonged illness, and progressive impairment of social functioning. Studies have shown that about 50% of patients with first-episode depressive disorder are eventually diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Therefore, it is especially important to provide professional assessment, early identification and full management of depressive disorders, bipolar disorder and related disorders.
