Interferon for hepatitis B patients, how to check before and during injection

Monitoring and follow-up of interferon therapy Before treatment, (1) biochemical markers, including ALT, AST, bilirubin, albumin and renal function should be checked; (2) blood routine, thyroid function, blood glucose and urine routine; (3) virological markers, including baseline status or level of HBsAg, HBeAg, anti-HBe and HBV DNA; (4) for middle-aged or older patients, electrocardiograms examination and blood pressure measurement; (5) exclusion of autoimmune diseases; and (6) urine human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) test to exclude pregnancy. During the course of treatment, the following should be checked: (1) routine blood tests should be performed every 1 to 2 weeks in the first month after starting treatment, and then every month until the end of treatment; (2) biochemical markers, including ALT, AST, etc., should be performed once a month for 3 consecutive times after the start of treatment, and may be performed every 3 months thereafter as the disease condition improves; (3) virological markers: tested every 3 months after the start of treatment HBsAg, HBeAg, anti-HBe and HBV DNA; (4) Others: thyroid function, blood glucose and urine routine should be tested every 3 months; if thyroid function abnormality exists before treatment, thyroid function should be checked every month; (5) Mental status should be assessed regularly, especially for patients with obvious depression and suicidal tendency, the medication should be discontinued immediately and closely monitored.
