The maximum number of days you can live with fluid in the abdomen

The maximum number of days that a person can live with ascites varies from person to person, depending on the cause of ascites, and cannot be generalized. There are many causes of ascites, but for ascites caused by inflammatory infections, the ascites can be gradually absorbed after the inflammation is cured, which will not affect the survival time of patients. For the common cirrhotic ascites, after active and effective clinical treatment, ascites can also be absorbed and does not affect the patient’s life. However, for tumor ascites, how long patients can survive mainly depends on the spread and metastasis of cancer cells. If patients with advanced cancer have poor resistance and the effect of various treatments is not satisfactory, the survival period may be seriously shortened, and some patients can only survive for a few months. Patients are advised to increase protein, high calorie, high vitamin and trace element diet to promote ascites absorption, while water and sodium intake should be controlled to avoid aggravating the formation of ascites.
