Why is laparoscopic cholecystectomy preferred?

The gallbladder may need to be removed for congenital malformations, trauma, infection, ischemia, malfunction causing symptoms, and benign and malignant tumors. By far the most common are chronic cholecystitis, gallbladder stones, large gallbladder polyps or suspected cancer. Other less common conditions are malformations of the gallbladder that cause significant symptoms, irreparable gallbladder trauma, partial liver resection or liver trauma that impairs blood circulation to the gallbladder, acute cholecystitis that does not improve with medication or develops complications, adenomas of the gallbladder, gallbladder cancer, and so on.
