Is carotid atherosclerosis a cardiovascular disease?

Carotid atherosclerosis is not exclusively a cardiovascular disease. Carotid atherosclerosis can be a common cause of cardiovascular disease, but the specific manifestations and treatments vary. Carotid atherosclerosis generally leads to accelerated blood flow and narrowing of the lumen; in severe cases, it can lead to transient cerebral ischemia or stroke, and refers to atherosclerotic lesions that occur in the carotid arteries. Currently, risk factor control, interventional therapy, and surgery are common treatments. Cardiovascular disease refers to lesions of the heart and its surrounding arteries, veins, and microvessels, and is integrally related to atherosclerosis, smoking, alcohol consumption, and obesity. Cardiovascular diseases may cause myocardial ischemia, tachycardia, localized myocarditis and other symptoms. Improvement of daily living habits, dietary modification and surgical procedures are common treatments. After the development of carotid atherosclerosis or cardiovascular disease, cardiovascular protection should be carried out in a timely manner, such as medication and regular blood pressure, lipid and vascular checkups.
