Hepatitis C, it’s curable!

Last month, a patient in the clinic asked me to look at his labs. He had hepatitis C, and his loved ones and children were also infected with hepatitis C. After confirming that the whole family had hepatitis C, he said, “I’m going to buy a new Indian generic hepatitis C drug,” and left. It made me wonder: patients understand new drugs and new therapies have surpassed some of our doctors, who are still stuck on interferon as a drug. In 2014, the U.S. company Gilead launched the fastest sales ever to reach $10 billion in new drugs for hepatitis C – Sofosbuvir, with an efficacy of more than 90%, and the following year launched a second generation with better efficacy – plus Radiprevir combination, and Europe also launched a second generation therapy with the addition of daclatasvir, increasing the cure rate of hepatitis C to 99%! Of course, the U.S. original drug is expensive, 3 months sofosbuvir $84,000, but the Indian version is much cheaper, there are companies online to do this business, the latest EU version of the Ji II generation, plus airfare travel costs as little as 28,000 yuan, this to those who spend 70,000 a year to play interferon, and the efficacy of much worse, side effects have a lot of patients embarrassed!
