If acute nephritis is treated promptly and appropriately, most patients can gradually relieve their symptoms within 1-4 weeks and reach complete recovery after 4-8 weeks. Acute nephritis usually starts acutely, with hematuria, proteinuria, edema, hypertension, and transient kidney injury as the main symptoms. After rest and effective symptomatic treatment, patients’ symptoms will gradually improve within 1-4 weeks, as shown by the disappearance of hematuria, decreasing edema, decreasing blood pressure, and gradually normalizing kidney function, and serum creatinine can also return to normal within 4-8 weeks. Some patients will have a small amount of proteinuria and occult blood, which usually takes six months or one year to return to normal. About 10% of patients will have persistent proteinuria and hematuria, and the edema cannot be eliminated in a short period of time and may be transformed into chronic glomerulonephritis. Chinese medicine treatment can rapidly control edema, hematuria and proteinuria. Patients who develop acute nephritis should pay attention to bed rest, choose a light, high-fiber diet, control salt intake to 2-3g per day, and abstain from spicy and irritating foods.
