How should liver cysts be treated?

Hepatic cysts are a relatively common benign disease of the liver and are divided into parasitic and nonparasitic hepatic cysts. The former is more common with hepatic encapsulated worm disease, while the latter can be divided into congenital, traumatic, inflammatory and hepatomatous cysts. The most common clinical condition is congenital liver cysts, which are subdivided into solitary and multiple liver cysts. In general, patients with asymptomatic liver cysts do not require special management. Those with huge and symptomatic cysts can be given appropriate treatment: 1.Cyst puncture and aspiration: this method is suitable for superficial hepatic cysts and is simple to operate, but easy to recur. 2.Cystotomy: Mostly, this operation is done under laparoscopy. It is the main surgical method for treating liver cysts at present, and it is not easy to recur after surgery. 3.Cyst internal drainage: internal drainage can be done for cysts with thick cyst wall. 4.Cystectomy: Cystectomy is feasible for cysts with tips. 5.Multiple hepatic cysts: Generally, surgery is not advocated, and it is limited to dealing with large cysts that may cause symptoms, and “windowing” of cysts is feasible to relieve symptoms. For those whose lesions are limited to a segment or a lobe of the liver, and are accompanied by symptoms or the effect of windowing is not good, resection of the segment or lobe of the liver is also feasible. The disease develops slowly and has a good prognosis. For solitary liver cysts can be cured by surgical treatment, and multiple liver cysts can also relieve symptoms.
