Meridian identification is a treatment method to select acupuncture points or use medicine according to the doctrine of meridians. A correct understanding of meridian identification is an important way to overcome the lack of precision in the use of acupuncture points and to improve the efficacy of acupuncture. The acupuncturist determines the meridian associated with the disease based on the circulation of each meridian and the signs that occur when the meridian changes abnormally, and uses the acupoints on the relevant meridian circulation line for treatment because of the rule that “the meridian passes through, the main treatment reaches”. For example, for toothache, since the hand Yangming Large Intestine meridian travels to the lower teeth and the foot Yangming Stomach meridian travels to the upper teeth, the Nei Ting point on the Stomach meridian is used for upper toothache and the Hegu point on the Large Intestine meridian is used for lower toothache. If the toothache is accompanied by pressure pain in the bile meridian acupuncture points on the side of the head, Chinese medicine believes that the toothache is caused by bile meridian disorders or bile fire, then the bile meridian acupuncture points on the side of the head, or the diarrhea points of the bile meridian on the back of the foot, such as Manxi. If the toothache is vague, the tooth is loose, and there is pressure pain when pressing the Taixi point, this means that the toothache is caused by the inflammation of the deficiency fire in the Kidney meridian, so the original point of the Kidney meridian, Taixi, can be taken for treatment. The main method of acupuncture treatment is to identify and treat the meridians, which is often used in combination with the treatment of diseases and evidence. The first step is to identify the location of the lesion, and the second step is to be familiar with the meridians, tendons, and channels that pass through or around the lesion, and then use the method of “examination, cutting, circulation, and pressing” on the relevant meridians to examine the area through which the meridians pass. The examination includes abnormal sensory reactions, changes in skin color, localized depressions, bumps, swelling, subcutaneous nodules and cords, abnormal blood circulation, abnormal pulsation, etc. These abnormal changes reflect meridian pathology and are the main basis for clinical acupuncture selection of meridians and points. For diseases without specific foci, meridian diagnosis is particularly important. The “Ling Shu? The “disease of the meridians is the result of movement, and the disease of the meridians is the result of movement”, which was observed by the ancients and has an important reference value for the identification and treatment of meridians. In modern times, the use of meridian electrometry to detect changes in the electrical conductivity or resistance of the skin of meridians and acupuncture points is also helpful in identifying and treating meridians.
