I. Overview Big head plague is a warm epidemic caused by feeling the evil poison of Tian Xing invading the three Yang meridians with head and face {red, swollen and painful, fever as the main characteristics. It is also known as big head disease, big head wind, shrimp toad plague, big head Tianxing and so on. It mostly occurs in winter and spring. It is formed when the body is deficient in righteousness and feels the wind-heat evil poison of the time. At first, the evil toxin lies in the body, which can be seen as superficial evidence such as fever and mildly vicious cold, and then the heat toxin burns the lung, stomach and bile meridians and attacks the face and throat. Because of its strong contagiousness, it is equivalent to mumps in Western medicine and belongs to the scope of plague. The causative factor of the disease is wind-heat toxicity. In the warm and windy spring and the winter when it is cold and warm, it is easy to form wind-heat seasonal poison and spread the epidemic. When the body’s righteousness is insufficient, it will easily lead to the internal attack of wind-heat seasonal poison and the same disease in the Wei Qi division. When the body is depressed by the evil, it starts with abhorrence of cold and fever, followed by the heat and toxicity of the lung and stomach, resulting in strong heat and irritability, thirst and drinking, sore throat, and other symptoms of burning heat in the qi branch. It mainly involves the lung, stomach and bile meridians. Clinical manifestations: 1. The disease occurs in winter and spring.
