Liver stem cell transplantation for liver failure

*** Male, 69 years old, admitted to the hospital with “progressive abdominal distension for 1 month”. At present, the patient was in a poor mood, generalized irritable heat, restlessness, palms and soles felt irritable heat obviously, unable to lie down for a long time and sleep, sleep less than one hour a day. Admission examination: stable vital signs, poor general condition, chronic illness, mild yellowing of the skin and mucous membranes, irritability, poor mood, responsive. Heart and lungs were normal. Abdomen was distended, abdominal circumference increased, tension was slightly high. The abdomen was soft to touch, no pressure or rebound pain, liver and spleen were not palpable under the ribs, fluid tremor and mobile turbidity were positive, and bowel sounds were normal. Liver function was checked in the hospital, “ALT 112U/L, AST 134U/L, ALB 28g/L, TBIL 90umol/L, DBIL 42umol/L”, and blood test reported “platelet 82*109/L”. The patient had a history of taking a large amount of drugs and health care products for a long time. After admission, the examination of viral hepatitis was negative, liver CT examination reported “chronic liver disease damage, consistent with the image of drug-induced liver injury”, and PET-CT ruled out abdominal tumors and metastasis. After admission, he was diagnosed with: 1. drug induced liver injury, 2. cirrhosis (decompensated stage), 3. hypersplenism, and 4. ascites. After admission, after diuresis and albumin supplementation, the patient’s ascites improved significantly, but the rest of the symptoms improved poorly due to poor liver function, which was end-stage. In order to actively save the patient, intrahepatic therapy with umbilical cord blood stem cells was performed, in which highly active stem cells proposed by the umbilical cord blood of the newborn were injected into the hepatic artery, and the stem cells grew at a fixed value in the patient’s liver, which could significantly improve the patient’s liver function. After the treatment, the patient was followed up for 1 month, the patient’s ascites basically subsided, the intravenous drugs had been stopped, the liver function returned to normal, the sleep was basically normal, the generalized annoyance and other symptoms disappeared, and the diet was normal.
