In Li Shizhen’s hometown, Hubei Herb County, there are a lot of moxa habits, such as the baby after birth to take a moxa bath, and moxa wool on fontanel and navel to prevent colds; maternal bath with moxa soup to disinfect and ward off obscenities, warm the blood, to prevent postpartum weakness and disease. If you feel wind and cold, use moxa leaves to decoct and wash your feet, or take warm clothes to get sweat, and so on. In many parts of the country, moxa is used as a folk custom. Modern research shows that mugwort leaves contain not only volatile oil, but also tannin, flavonoids, sterols, polysaccharides, trace elements and other organic components, etc. Pharmacological research shows that mugwort leaves have various medicinal effects such as antibacterial, antiviral, anti-mycoplasma and chlamydia, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-allergic, sedative, asthma, expectorant and cough suppressant.
