I. Initial consultation
The patient, a 31-year-old female with no history of chronic disease, went to our hospital for a routine physical examination in June 2021 and was found to be positive for high-risk type 52, so she went to our outpatient clinic for further diagnosis and treatment. The patient complained of no vulvar itching, odor, and abnormalities such as bleeding during intercourse, and was unsure of the cause of HPV infection. Based on the patient’s current condition, I performed a specialist examination in the outpatient clinic, which did not show any significant abnormalities. Further TCT was performed, and the results suggested abnormal epithelial cells. I explained to the patient that to clarify the nature of the cervical epithelial lesion, colposcopy and cervical biopsy would be needed to determine the lesion based on the pathological findings. After listening to my explanation, the patient agreed to undergo the next step of examination.
II. Treatment history
After the results of colposcopy and cervical biopsy were available, the patient came back to our clinic. Fortunately, the results of these two tests did not show any significant abnormalities, and the patient only had HPV 52 infection, which had not yet caused any serious consequences such as precancerous lesions. I explained the situation to the patient and her family and suggested medication to improve her body’s resistance, shorten the course of the disease and speed up the HPV conversion. After consideration, the patient agreed to my treatment plan and was prescribed recombinant human interferon α2b gel and povidone-based suppositories, both of which can play an antiviral and anti-inflammatory role, and the former of which can also improve the patient’s immunity.
Third, the treatment effect
After 3 months of treatment, the patient came to our hospital for a follow-up HPV and TCT examination. Although the type 52 infection had not yet turned negative, the number of viral infections had decreased from 27.01 before treatment to 9.21, indicating that the previous stage of treatment had achieved initial results. After the follow-up, the patient went home and continued treatment with medication, and was successfully converted to negative 6 months after the diagnosis of HPV infection. The patient did not show any significant abnormality in all tests during the follow-up and is still under regular outpatient follow-up.
IV. Precautions
When the patient learned that the colposcopy and cervical biopsy results were not abnormal, her heart was slightly relieved, but she was still worried about her condition. For example, you need to pay attention to regular work and rest in daily life, avoid staying up late for a long time; and learn to reasonably release the stress in work and life; and also according to the weather changes appropriate increase and decrease clothing. In short, try to avoid external factors that cause the body’s resistance to decline, resulting in the prolongation of HPV infection.
V. Personal insight
For patients with HPV infection, especially those with high-risk HPV infection in this case, when the infection has not led to cervical epithelial lesions, they should adjust their mindset, actively use medication to cooperate with treatment, and adjust their mindset to avoid excessive stress, as well as excessive anxiety and other bad emotions, and improve their bad habits, which have a positive effect on improving their resistance and can play a role in promoting HPV The role of the HPV negative.
