What is a headache

Headache is a common disorder. It can be either a single disease or a sign or complication of some organic disease of the body. In recent years, with the accelerated pace of life, the incidence of headache is on the rise. Migraine and myotonic headache account for more than half of the headache clinics. Migraine is characterized by recurrent migraines or bilateral headaches, which are more common in women than men. It is divided into typical migraine (about 10%, mostly with family history), common migraine (about 70%-80%), and complex migraine (less common, including oculomotor paralysis migraine, hemiplegic migraine, basilar artery migraine, etc.). The results of large population surveys in the United States and Europe indicate that about 40% of people have suffered from severe headaches at some time in their lives, and half of these headache patients are migraineurs. The epidemiological survey of migraine in six cities in China shows that the prevalence of migraine is 6.3‰ on average, with the prevalence in Shanghai being 9.7‰. Other statistics show that the prevalence of migraine in China is 985.2 per 100,000 people and the annual incidence rate is 79.7 per 100,000 people, and the incidence rate of the age group under 30 years old is increasing year by year. Western medicine commonly uses sedative pain relievers such as Valium, APC, depot tablets and paracetamol for treatment, which are effective for mild and moderate pain, but if taken frequently, the pain relieving effect becomes worse and worse, and there are many toxic side effects. Although the calcium antagonist ciprofloxacin is effective in the treatment of migraine, it has many side effects when taken for a long time, and not all countries allow it to be used as a preventive drug. There are other symptomatic treatments such as NSAIDs, ergotamine therapy, beta-blockers, etc. There are many gastrointestinal adverse reactions, and long-term repeated use of the drug can affect the bone marrow hematopoietic function, resulting in a decrease in peripheral blood leukocytes. Myotonic headache, also known as myoconstriction headache, is the most common type of chronic headache, mostly seen in women, accounting for about 75% of the cases. It is caused by the persistent contraction of head and neck muscles due to various reasons such as mental tension. Psychogenic headache, psycho-myogenic headache, stress psychogenic headache, and tension headache are all included in this disease, which is often caused by mental stress or unreasonable posture such as anxiety, depression, and mental tension. Western medicine treats this disease with muscle relaxants and anxiolytics. Theoretically, muscle relaxants are effective, but the clinical efficacy is not very satisfactory, and the side effects are obvious with the application of large doses of these drugs. Anxiolytic agents have a narrow scope of application and are not very effective in relieving pain. Headache may seem to be a simple disease, but persistent frequent headache seriously affects a person’s life and work, and there is no good treatment for it in Western medicine now! According to my long-term clinical experience, I found that Chinese herbal medicine has a very good treatment effect on this kind of headache!
