How effective is Chinese medicine in treating MDS?

The Department of Hematology of Xiyuan Hospital started to treat various malignant hematological diseases with Qinghuang San in the 1970s and achieved good results. Since 2000, there have been 306 cases of MDS treated with Qing Huang San + Spleen and Kidney tonics, with a total effective rate of 79.5-82.3% and a remission rate of 24.3-26.5%. 60%-70% of patients had normalized peripheral blood trisomy, which was effective for all types of MDS, but the efficacy was correlated with FAB typing, IPSS criterion and chromosomal abnormalities. However, the efficacy was significantly correlated with FAB staging, IPSS risk and chromosomal abnormalities. The overall efficacy was better than that of the existing Western medicine. Complications such as myelosuppression, bleeding and infection, which are common in the treatment of Azacitidine and Decitabine, did not occur during the treatment, and the patients’ quality of life was significantly improved and survival was significantly prolonged; moreover, the patients’ cost was extremely low (less than 1/10 of western medicine treatment).
