Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment for Acne

  The internal treatment should be based on different manifestations such as the duration of onset and the shape of the lesions, and the treatment should be divided and reduced according to the evidence.  Wind-heat in the lung: red or skin-colored papules and pimples, itchy and painful skin, yellow urine, constipated stool, dry mouth, red tongue, thin yellow fur, floating pulse, equivalent to acne grade I and II. The prescription is Loquat Qing Lung Drink or Diabai San with addition or subtraction.  Damp heat of the spleen and stomach: The skin lesions are mainly red papules and pustules with pain, oily skin on the face and back of the chest; may be accompanied by bad breath, bitterness in the mouth, dullness, loose or sticky stools or constipation, yellow urine; red tongue with yellow greasy coating, slippery or string pulse, equivalent to grade II or III of acne. The treatment should be to clear heat and dampness, ventilate and detoxify the internal organs. For constipation, the Chinese herbal medicines Lianxiao Defeat Toxin Pill and Fangfeng Tong Sheng Pill can be used; for loose stools, the Chinese herbal medicines Xiang Lian Pill and Ginseng{Baijiao San can be used.  Phlegm and stagnation evidence: The lesions are mainly nodules and cysts, dark red in color, pustules are also visible and do not heal over time. The treatment should be to activate blood circulation and resolve blood stasis, resolve phlegm and disperse knots. The prescription is Hai Zha Yu Hu Tang or Tao Hong Si Wu Tang combined with Er Chen Tang with addition and reduction.  Irregularity of the flush and the Ren: The lesions are usually found on the forehead, between the eyebrows or on the cheeks, increasing before menstruation and decreasing after menstruation, accompanied by irregular menstruation, irritability before menstruation, breast swelling and pain, and impatience. The treatment should be to harmonize the flushes and the blood, regulate the qi and activate the blood, and the prescription should be Prosperity San or Erxian Tang combined with Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan plus or minus, and the Chinese medicine can be Prosperity Wan, Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan, Zuo Gui Wan and Liu Wei Di Huang Wan.  External treatment and other therapies Chinese medicine wet compress: decoction of Amaranthus, Ziziphiopogon and Phellodendron, etc., applied twice a day for 20 min each time, for inflammatory papules and pustular lesions, to clear heat and detoxify the skin and reduce inflammation.  Chinese herbal mask: Upside-down powder (rhubarb, sulfur, etc. finely ground), water or honey to make a thin paste, apply to the lesions, 30min later wash off with water, once a night. Used for inflammatory mounds}, pustules, nodules and cystic lesions, to break blood stasis and activate blood circulation, clear heat and disperse nodules.  Ear acupuncture pressure: take endocrine, subcortical, lung, heart and stomach acupuncture points, use Wang Bu Liu Xing seeds to paste on the acupuncture points, and instruct the patient to lightly press about 1min per day, and change once every 5 days.  Ear tip puncture and bloodletting: The ear tip point or the endocrine point and subcortical point in the ear are selected on the ear Guo, and after routine disinfection, the ear tip point is punctured with a trigeminal needle, and then 6-8 drops of blood stasis are squeezed out at the puncture site, which is treated once or twice a week.  Acupuncture: The main acupoints are Baihui, Shuzhe, Quchi, Dazhi, Hegu, and Lung Yu, and the supporting acupoints are Sibai, Zanzhu, Shimonoseki, Chee Che and points around the lesion. Method: Apply the flat-supplementation and flat-diarrhea technique, and retain the needle for 30 min after acupuncture, once a day.  Fire acupuncture: often choose dorsal points, such as Lung Yu, Diaphragm Yu, Spleen Yu, Stomach Yu, heat, constipation, intestinal Yu, menstrual disorders, plus the second s. After routine disinfection of the skin, take the fire acupuncture needle on the alcohol lamp and burn the tip red, then quickly stab each point directly, 3 times per point, once every other day.  Stabbing cupping: take points mostly for lung Yu, large spine points, spleen Yu, stomach Yu, large intestine Yu, diaphragm Yu, kidney Yu, etc. Each time to take 4-6 dorsal Yu points, trigeminal needle piercing the skin, and then cupping in the puncture site, leaving the jar for 10-15 min, once every 3 days, 10 times for a course of treatment.
