Patients with osteoporosis and reduced bone mass are at significantly higher risk of fracture and have high rates of disability and mortality. The Blue Book of Osteoporotic Fracture Prevention and Treatment concludes that osteoporotic fractures are extremely destructive, with reduced quality of life, decreased mood, physiological function, and activity indicators, increased family burden, consumption of substantial medical resources, and increased chances of re-fracture, and that timely long-term anti-osteoporosis treatment can reduce the risk of re-fracture. Inadequate medical professional education, insufficient diagnostic ability, unpopular scientific knowledge and insufficient training in treatment are the main factors limiting the timely treatment of osteoporosis.
