Understanding post-skull defect repair

The indications for surgery are: 1. Skull defect larger than 3 cm in diameter. 2.The defect is aesthetically displeasing. 3.The symptoms caused by long-term dizziness and headache are difficult to relieve. 4, meningeal-brain scar formation with epilepsy (need to perform epilepsy focal resection at the same time). 5.Severe mental burden affecting work and life. Those who have poor general condition, serious neurological defect and cannot take care of their own life; or those who have large scar in the thin scalp of the defect area, and those who cannot expand the local depression, should not be repaired in a hurry. There are many kinds of materials for skull repair, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. In my opinion, titanium alloy plate has strong compressive property, good tissue compatibility, good shape of shaped titanium plate, simple surgery, but because of thermal conductivity, sharp edges easily penetrate the scalp and have the disadvantage of affecting X-ray examination, it is still to be improved, and its price is more expensive; silicon rubber skull plate with mesh enhancement has good compatibility, good shape, high strength, no thermal conductivity, does not affect X-ray examination, and low price, the whole cost of surgery is less than $9,000, which is my first choice; some doctors believe that silicone plates are easy to reject, infect, and penetrate the scalp. The key to the success of silicone plasty is the trimming of the patch, the suspension of the dura, and a good way to prevent fluid accumulation is to lay a layer of gelatin sponge under the patch, which is great!
