Prevention of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is often asymptomatic in its early stages, and its powerful effects are only realized when it becomes severe enough to cause fractures, thus making osteoporosis the “silent killer”. This is to remind everyone of the importance of preventing osteoporosis. Guo Xianhao, Department of Integrative Medicine, General Hospital of Nanjing Military Region
Above: The vertebral body of a patient with osteoporosis (female, 57 years old) can be seen, showing a total of 3 vertebrae (the white ones are vertebral bones), the middle vertebrae have been lost, the lower vertebrae have been compressed and deformed, and the upper vertebrae appear to be in good shape, but the “hole” in the middle is obvious. Almost all patients are unaware of the bone loss when it occurs, and when the fracture occurs and seriously affects their daily lives, they are still puzzled and always ask: How did osteoporosis happen when they were fine?
Osteoporosis is often asymptomatic in the early stage, so it is often overlooked, and when it becomes serious to a certain extent, pain, hunchback, height reduction and fragility fracture appear. The harm can be imagined, make up a jingle as follows.
The bones become loose, the vertebrae are flattened.
The back rises high, and the body shrinks to a short size.
Turning over is painful, and walking is wobbly.
The family is so anxious that they have a lot of problems.

The basic measures to prevent osteoporosis include proper diet, calcium D supplementation, proper exercise, proper sun exposure, and good lifestyle.
Classification of osteoporosis. There are primary and secondary osteoporosis. After the diagnosis of osteoporosis, further examination is needed to clarify whether the osteoporosis is primary and whether there are diseases and drugs that cause osteoporosis. If the osteoporosis is secondary, then the primary disease should be actively treated along with the treatment of osteoporosis.
Diagnosis of osteoporosis. Dual energy bone density is the “gold standard” for diagnosing osteoporosis, and regular review can dynamically observe the change of bone density and monitor the treatment effect. Other methods such as X-ray, CT, MRI, ECT, etc. can also detect osteoporosis, but they are often found when it is more serious. We hereby remind everyone to have bone density check early and review it regularly.
Treatment of osteoporosis. Treatment aims: (1) increase bone density; (2) improve bone quality; (3) relieve bone pain; (4) prevent fracture or re-fracture.
The specific treatment plan for osteoporosis varies from person to person. In general, a combination of therapies is required: (1) diet; (2) calcium and vitamin D supplementation; (3) appropriate exercise; (4) sun exposure; (5) good lifestyle; (6) pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment; (7) surgical therapy; (8) avoidance of falls and trauma to prevent fractures and re-fractures; (9) regular review of bone density; (10) active treatment of primary diseases; and (11) psychological guidance.
Commonly used drugs for osteoporosis: (1) active vitamin D; (2) calcitonin; (3) diphosphonates; (4) estrogens; (5) selective estrogen receptor modulators; (6) parathyroid hormone fragments; (7) traditional Chinese medicine, etc.
Exercises for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis mainly include 2 major aspects: First, exercise strength, following the principle of strength and gradual progress, avoiding excessive force causing injury, mainly in the horizontal position, supplemented by the standing position, it should be reminded that some movements, such as half squat, climbing, going up and down stairs, are not suitable for patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. The second is to exercise balance, by doing exercises, standing on one leg, frequent tiptoeing, repeating the above movements with eyes closed, etc., to exercise neuromuscular coordination, which is helpful in preventing falls and reducing the risk of fractures.
For exercise methods in the flat position, you can refer to the following links, always paying attention to the amount of strength, avoiding violence and violent force.
