With the deepening of the national fitness movement, more and more people are participating in various sports exercises, and running has become an essential thing for people every day. This year’s Shanghai International Marathon 18,000 places in just 4 hours were snatched up, which shows the high enthusiasm of people for the sport of running. The long-distance running is a double-edged sword, which may produce stress injury to the bone while enhancing physical fitness, which may turn into a complete fracture of the bone. Yao Ming, a well-known basketball player, had a bone stress fracture that ended his athletic career early. What is a bone stress injury? It is the inability of the bone to withstand repetitive mechanical loading, resulting in structural bone fatigue and localized skeletal pain and tenderness. In the early stages, the pain is relatively mild and diffuse, occurring after running and relieved after rest, and the stage is often easily overlooked. As the disease progresses, the pain becomes progressively worse, even with every step, and painful at night. The prevalent site is in the tibial tuberosity, but also commonly in the femur, fibula, heel, metatarsal and tarsal bones. It is a disease with a high incidence and recurrence rate among athletes. According to statistics, about 1/3 to 2/3 of long-distance runners have a history of more than one attack, and about 10.3 to 12.6% of patients will have residual symptoms for up to 1 to 2 years. Professional athletes who have received systematic and scientific training under strict supervision still have a high possibility of having a series of uncomfortable symptoms, not to mention for us, the common people. Therefore, not only running, and even before doing other sports, you should do a good assessment, to exclude all the risk factors that may cause you harm, such as their own health, running posture, sports shoes, sports venues, etc., to develop an individualized exercise program. Exercise is such a happy and healthy thing, do not accidentally let the “run” out of the pain swept us away.
