Precautions for glucocorticoid use

Glucocorticosteroids play an important role in the treatment of nephrotic syndrome and other diseases, but they have certain side effects, so clinical application should pay attention to the following aspects: 1. Regular medication: That is, follow the principle of full application and gradual reduction. Some patients stop taking glucocorticosteroids after their urine protein turns negative, or quickly reduce the drug by themselves, leading to a relapse of the disease, and treatment has to be started from scratch again. Some young women are afraid of gaining weight after taking glucocorticosteroids and affecting their physical beauty, so they do not take the medication regularly and delay the treatment. Patients with liver function damage can be replaced with prednisolone under the guidance of a doctor. 2, pay attention to the prevention of infection: kidney disease patients with low resistance, coupled with the application of prednisone and other immunosuppressants, more likely to incur infection, and infection affects the therapeutic effect of kidney disease. Therefore, should avoid going to public places or close contact with people with respiratory infections. Infections that develop should be treated promptly. It should be noted that treatment with a large number of hormones can often cause leukocytosis, so the presence of infection cannot be judged by leukocytosis alone, but rather a comprehensive analysis of the condition. 3, pay attention to the prevention and control of hypertension: the initial use of a large number of prednisone has the effect of sodium and water retention, some patients may cause an increase in blood pressure, can be appropriate to strengthen diuretic therapy, if necessary, additional antihypertensive drugs. 4.Prevention of osteoporosis: Long-term and large amounts of glucocorticoids may cause bone loss and osteoporosis in some patients, so calcium and active vitamin D can be given for prevention. 5.Other: A few patients who apply glucocorticosteroids may develop stress gastrointestinal ulcers or even bleeding, which need to be monitored and handled in time.
