Drinking is not recommended.
On the one hand, drinking coffee can interfere with the absorption of levothyroxine sodium tablets. We know that after thyroid cancer surgery it is necessary to take levothyroxine sodium tablets to replenish thyroid hormones to maintain the body’s basic metabolism. If you drink coffee while taking the medication, it will lower the level of thyroid hormone in your body by 23% to 53%. This is because coffee contains substances that bind to the medication, causing it to be less readily absorbed by the intestines, thus affecting the effectiveness of the medication.
On the other hand, thyroid cancer patients with symptoms of hyperthyroidism have a relatively fast metabolism themselves, and some will experience panic attacks and hand tremors. The fact that coffee contains caffeine stimulates the nervous system, which can further aggravate the symptoms of panic and hand tremors.
Therefore, coffee is not recommended for thyroid cancer patients after surgery.
