General information about varicocele

Varicocele is a common condition in men and also has a great impact on their health. In a man’s scrotum, a spermatic cord consisting of arteries, veins and vas deferens is connected to the left and right respectively. The veins in the spermatic cord are known as spermatic veins. Varicocele is an abnormal elongation, dilation and tortuosity of the trapezius plexus in the spermatic cord. When the lesion is mild, it is usually asymptomatic and is detected only during physical examination. When the lesion is severe, a protruding and dilated plexus of veins can be seen in the scrotum, resembling a mass of earthworms, and the patient feels a feeling of swelling and vague pain. The causes of varicose veins in the spermatic cord: Firstly, there is a “congenital deficiency”, the anatomical characteristics of the walls of the veins in the spermatic cord make them prone to blood flow disorders; such as poorly developed or completely defective venous valves
The poor elasticity of the vascular wall and the weak connective tissue around the vein make the venous blood flow back poor or obstructed and varicose; Secondly, it is the influence of acquired adverse factors, such as physical labor or physical exercise with excessive force, prolonged walking, standing or excessive fatigue, etc., which induce varicose veins. According to statistics, 99% of varicose veins occur on the left side, which is because 1, the left spermatic vein “stroke” is longer than the right side, and it needs to cross the crest and converge at right angles to the left kidney vein, so the blood flow resistance is large. 2, the left spermatic vein is crossed by the lower descending colon or sigmoid colon in the process of walking, and when this part of the intestine is full of feces, it will compress the vein and prevent the blood from flowing back. 3, retroperitoneal tumor, kidney tumor compressing the spermatic vein, cancer embolus blocking the renal vein, so that the blood return flow is obstructed, causing secondary varicocele. For those who have no symptoms or mild symptoms, scrotal brace or tight underwear can be used; those who have more serious symptoms or affect fertility can be treated surgically. Usually, a high ligation of the internal spermatic vein is done through a dehiscence incision and some dilated veins in the scrotum are removed.
Recovery is quick. The following aspects can be used to prevent varicocele 1, to participate in physical labor or physical exercise should be measured, do not carry weight for a long time, avoid prolonged standing or walking, so as to avoid increased abdominal pressure, scrotal traction, perineal vein reflux obstruction. 2, eat more fresh vegetables, fruits, avoid drinking alcohol and spicy stimulating food, adhere to the daily regular bowel movements, to prevent the accumulation of feces compression of the left spermatic vein. 3, pay attention to sleeping posture, take the right side lying position when sleeping, lower limbs slightly bent, in order to reduce the pressure of the bedding on the scrotum, conducive to the spermatic vein blood flow back.
