What is the probability of infertility

The World Health Organization defines infertility as the failure of a couple of childbearing age to conceive after one year of living together without contraception and with regular sexual intercourse. The prevalence of infertility is about 8-17% of women of childbearing age, with an average of 10%. Studies in recent years have found that the incidence of infertility is on the rise with environmental and other causes, and that one in seven couples in the United States has difficulty conceiving at some point in their reproductive years. Some sources indicate that the incidence of infertility in this country is about 15-20%. With advances in medical science, the pregnancy rate for infertile couples can be 30-50% or more. Therefore, infertility should be recognized and actively treated in order to improve the chances of conception.
