How long between probiotics and antibiotics

Probiotics and antibiotics are generally recommended to be separated by 2-3 hours to avoid affecting the efficacy of the medicine. Antibiotics have a bactericidal effect, and when used together with probiotics, they may have an inhibitory or killing effect on probiotics, so the two drugs should be avoided together as much as possible. If the patient must apply antibiotics and probiotics at the same time due to the condition, the interval between the two needs to be noted to avoid the antibiotics affecting the absorption of probiotics. The clinical situation of using them together can be divided into the following two kinds, one is the short-term use of antibiotics, usually 7-14 days, which rarely causes intestinal flora dysbiosis, so the probiotics can be supplemented after the antibiotic course is finished. The other is the need for long-term anti-infection treatment, clinically beyond the general course of treatment, the need for oral probiotics at the same time, it is recommended to give probiotics orally 2-3 hours after the application of antibiotics. Probiotics are not recommended to be taken continuously for a long time, so as not to form dependence and resistance and aggravate the symptoms of diarrhea and constipation.
