Maddrey’s discriminant function was used for the assessment of the condition of alcoholic liver disease and for the assessment of whether or not to hormone therapy. Formula: 4.6 x difference in prothrombin time (PT) (seconds) + serum bilirubin TBil) (mg/dl). Calculation of more than 32 points is recommended for hormone therapy with the exception of clinical contraindications. However, after 1 week of treatment, it is necessary to reassess the therapeutic effect and adverse effects (see Lille Score Formula and Clinical Significance) to weigh the pros and cons before deciding whether to continue hormone therapy. It should be noted that the Maddery discriminant function is mainly used to assess the degree of damage to the inflammatory response of the alcoholic liver, and hormones are also used to inhibit the inflammatory response, so hormone therapy should be used with caution if other etiologic factors are involved or if there is a combination of other diseases.
