Physical symptoms and anxiety depression

  There are two distinctive characteristics of depressed and anxious patients who visit psychiatric clinics: they have been repeatedly treated in general hospitals with poor results; and they have prominent physical symptoms. In fact, these patients have two problems: firstly, they do not know what depression and anxiety are, or even have a low level of knowledge about them.  Secondly, when depression and anxiety appear, they are not willing to be treated in specialist clinics, but in general hospitals such as neurology, gastroenterology, respiratory and cardiovascular departments for repeated examination and “treatment”, with predictable results! In fact, depression and anxiety mostly show various physical symptoms, these physical discomfort may be closely related to depression and anxiety, need to identify and understand, the author’s experience can be shared with these friends a two: 1, cardiovascular symptoms.  Cardiovascular symptoms may be the most common manifestation of depression and anxiety, such as patients often feel panic, precordial discomfort, a sense of pressure, accompanied by nervousness, fear of the experience, along with sweating, dizziness, dry mouth and other different symptoms, when they first appear, may be examined in the cardiovascular department, but no significant evidence was found to support such disorders as coronary heart disease, heart attack, some doctors give ” Some doctors give the diagnosis of “coronary artery disease to be investigated”, which makes patients more nervous and even go to more specialists for a clear diagnosis.  Some patients do have some cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial ischemia, coronary syndrome, but there is no significant clinical diagnostic value, just observation, but the patient suffers from not getting a clear diagnosis and a lot of anxiety. Further aggravate the negative emotions of anxiety and depression, leading to increased somatic discomfort as well.  2. Respiratory symptoms.  Many patients suffering from anxiety disorders, poor breathing, choking feeling is particularly obvious, some panic attack friends first attack is often accompanied by breathing difficulties, choking feeling, then also accompanied by extreme fear and near-death experience, often to call 120 emergency. There was an elderly male patient in his 80s who was troubled by digestive discomfort for many years, even going so far as to open his abdomen to explore the abdomen without finding any abnormality, and came to the psychiatric department and was diagnosed with somatoform disorder, and actually had more significant somatic anxiety symptoms, and recovered well after systematic psychiatric treatment.  4, genitourinary system symptoms.  Probably female complaints are more common, usually with such things as menstrual irregularities and amenorrhea. For men, sexual dysfunction, urinary frequency and urgency, lumbosacral swelling, etc. are common, and have been treated in endocrinology and Chinese medicine for a long time, with poor results, and distress has to be seen in psychiatry, and it is found that more significant emotional symptoms are prominent, with anxiety or depression leading to abnormal function of the genitourinary system.  5. Neurological symptoms.  Dizziness and head discomfort are prominent, especially pain is the main expression, which can be manifested as any form of pain, headache, back pain, joint pain is a common complaint, accompanied by muscle tension, stiffness, unfavorable activity, tremor, etc. Pain can be considered a strong predictor of depression and anxiety, with nearly half of depressed and anxious patients experiencing varying degrees of pain.  To sum up, when you have the above somatic symptoms and cannot find any abnormality in the comprehensive department, you should come to the psycho-psychiatric department for a detailed assessment of your mental and emotional state, which may enable us to take less detours, relieve our pain faster and recover our health sooner!
