Reasons for the formation of thought breakdowns

Thought breakdowns occur when the patient’s speech or writing consists of well-structured sentences, but the sentences are unrelated and become a pile of statements that are incomprehensible throughout the paragraph. In severe cases, the speech is fragmented and individual words and phrases are not connected to each other. The causes of thought breakdowns are as follows: Neurobiological factors: 1. Neurobiochemical studies show that patients have a variety of neurotransmitter function abnormalities, mainly involving dopamine, 5-hydroxytryptamine, and glutamate. Central dopamine levels are increased and hyperfunctional, and traditional antipsychotics are all blockers of dopamine receptors in the central nervous system. Central 5-hydroxytryptamine levels are abnormal, and newer antipsychotics have antagonistic effects on 5-hydroxytryptamine receptors in addition to dopamine receptors. Central glutamate levels are low and insufficiently functional. 2, Neuroanatomical and neuroimaging studies showed that the patient had brain tissue atrophy in the temporal lobe, frontal lobe and limbic system, enlarged ventricles and widened sulcus gyrus. 3, Viral infections during maternal pregnancy, perinatal complications, adverse stress and somatic disorders in early childhood, which are associated with developmental defects of the nervous system, have an impact in the development of schizophrenia.
