The CT manifestation of cerebral atrophy is widening of the cerebral sulcus, which can be greater than 5 mm when measured, along with enlargement of the cerebral pools and ventricles in a walnut shape, and some elderly patients can also show significant widening of the lateral ventricles. Cerebral atrophy also includes limited cerebral atrophy, for example, due to trauma or cerebrovascular disease, patients can have atrophy of one cerebral hemisphere, or temporal lobe atrophy, and the lesion can be found in the cerebral sulcus and gyrus very obvious. Patients with cerebral atrophy may also have memory loss and slow reaction time, which can be measured clinically on a scale. If necessary, patients can be given oral medications to improve brain cell function, and if dementia is diagnosed, acetylcholinesterase inhibitors can be used.
