Treatment of cardia failure with balloon dilation

Cardia achalasia is a rare primary esophageal motility disorder. It presents with dysphagia, vomiting, retrosternal distension, regurgitation, and choking. Barium meal imaging shows dilated esophageal body with bird’s beak-like narrowing of the cardia and obstruction of barium passage; gastroscopy commonly shows dilated esophagus with residual fluid and food in the lumen. The main treatment methods for cardia achalasia are medication, endoscopic and surgical treatment. Endoscopic balloon dilation is an effective treatment with good efficacy, little trauma and fast recovery. Patients do not need complicated special preparation before treatment. Only fasting and awake, gastroscopy is required to determine the treatment site, and then balloon dilation is used to complete the treatment. Post-operative recovery is fast. All patients treated with balloon dilatation in our hospital have significantly improved their eating after surgery, and the results are satisfactory at 1 month-3 years of follow-up.
