Dietary contraindications for thyroid nodules

Thyroid nodules are relatively common in clinical practice, and generally such patients should adjust their iodine intake when appropriate, under medical supervision. For patients with co-morbid hyperthyroidism, iodine intake should be restricted and seafood high in iodine, such as kelp, should be avoided. In addition, patients are advised to stop smoking and drinking and to avoid stimulating drinks such as coffee and strong tea; to avoid spicy foods such as chillies, peppers and spring onions; and to avoid foods that are too fatty or fried.
It is important to note that diet is only one part of the treatment of thyroid nodules. If you experience any symptoms or abnormalities in your daily life, it is advisable to seek active medical attention so that your doctor can develop an appropriate treatment plan for your condition and give you dietary advice that is appropriate for your situation.
