Can ice be applied externally to sternal pressure pain?

Sternal pressure pain due to acute contusion, when combined with significant spontaneous sternal pain, can be helped by applying ice wrapped in a towel externally to the painful area. Do not use ice for other causes of sternal pressure pain.
