How is acute diarrhea treated?

Infectious diarrhea is defined as diarrhea caused by infection with pathogenic microorganisms and may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, urgency, crampy abdominal pain, systemic clinical symptoms, or malnutrition. The duration of acute diarrhea is less than 14 days. Persistent diarrhea lasts for more than 14 days. Diarrhea lasting for more than 30 days is usually referred to as chronic diarrhea. Clinical assessment The World Health Organization (WHO) has developed a very simple “bedside” clinical method for rapid determination of the severity of diarrhea, based on the training of village doctors in the Bay of Bengal region. The method is as follows: Mild diarrhea: no more than 3 unformed stools per day, with minimal associated clinical symptoms. Moderate diarrhea: 4 or less than 6 unformed stools per day, with systemic symptoms. Severe diarrhea: more than 6 unformed stools per day and/or temperature 3 38.5°C, urgency, bloody stools, or pus cells detected in the stool. Treatment 1. General treatment: Rest in bed as much as possible and take oral glucose and electrolyte solution to replenish the loss of body fluids. If vomiting persists or dehydration is obvious, intravenous supplementation of 5%-10% glucose saline and other related electrolytes is required. Encourage ingestion of light liquid or semi-liquid food to prevent dehydration or treat minor dehydration. 2. Symptomatic treatment: If necessary, inject antiemetic drugs: for example, intramuscular injection of chlorpromazine 25-100mgl day. Antispasmodics: such as belladonna 8n堪11 times, 3 times a day. Antidiarrheal drugs: such as Simethicone 1 bag each time, 2-3 times a day. 3, antibacterial therapy: the therapeutic effect of antimicrobial agents on the disease is controversial. For infectious diarrhea, targeted antimicrobial agents can be used appropriately, such as Huang Lian Su O.3g orally, 3 times a day or Gentamicin 80,000u orally, 3 times a day, etc. However, antimicrobial abuse should be prevented.
