The prognosis of rheumatic fever depends mainly on the presence or absence of cardiac inflammation and its severity. Usually, about 70% of people with acute rheumatic fever recover within 2-3 months from the first attack of rheumatic fever, and if it does not affect the heart, other symptoms tend to disappear and generally do not affect life expectancy. However, if the condition is severe and causes heart failure, it may be life-threatening. Rheumatic heart disease, with damage to the heart valves left untreated, can also cause psychological disorders heart failure and ultimately endanger life. It is therefore important to take care after suffering from rheumatic fever to prevent further attacks and avoid rheumatic heart disease.
