How to apply liver transplantation for biliary system diseases?

Biliary system diseases are always an important indication in the selection of liver transplantation for the treatment of many diseases, which include congenital biliary atresia, malignant biliary tract diseases, biliary malignancies, primary biliary cirrhosis and secondary biliary cirrhosis, and each of these diseases has its own indication. The timing of liver transplantation for diseases of the biliary system includes: when liver transplantation is the only means or the only effective means of disease treatment; when liver transplantation is one of the methods of surgical treatment for the disease. Although there is no uniform standard for the preoperative evaluation of liver transplantation for biliary tract diseases, the first step should be to clarify the diagnosis; the second step should be to determine whether and to what extent liver transplantation is urgently needed for patients with biliary tract diseases; and the second step should be for the patient’s family to understand the whole process of liver transplantation, the risks involved, the value of transplantation, and the lifelong postoperative use of immunosuppressive drugs.
