Objective To investigate the clinicopathological features, treatment and prognosis of mucinous tubular and spindle cell carcinoma (MTSCC) of the kidney. Methods
The clinicopathological data of 11 patients with pathologically confirmed renal MTSCC were retrospectively analyzed; 7 were female and 4 were male; the mean age was 51.6 years. There were 2 cases of naked eye hematuria, 1 case of lumbar pain, and the rest were found by physical examination. Results
Seven cases had radical nephrectomy and four cases had partial nephrectomy for renal cancer. The average diameter of tumor was 4.4
The average tumor diameter was 4.4 cm, pT1aN0M0 stage in 6 cases, pT1bN0M0 stage in 3 cases, and pT2N0M0 stage in 2 cases. The tumors appeared microscopically as tubular and spindle-shaped cell structures interspersed with mucus-like interstitium. The median follow-up time after surgery
The median follow-up time after surgery was 41 months, and no tumor recurrence or metastasis was observed. Conclusion
MTSCC is a rare, low-grade malignant renal epithelial tumor with a good prognosis. CT examination is suggestive for preoperative diagnosis and provides some guidance for treatment selection. The recommended treatment is surgery to preserve the renal unit.
CT examination is useful for preoperative diagnosis, and is a guide for treatment selection. Huang Jiwei, Department of Urology, Shanghai Renji Hospital
