Hepatitis B carriers need regular follow-up

Hepatitis B carriers make up the majority of HBV infections in China, and treatment is generally not needed for most younger carriers. But not treating them is not the same as ignoring them. Because hepatitis B carriers can develop liver function abnormalities as they age and then develop chronic hepatitis, it is important that patients follow up regularly as recommended by their doctors so that the timing of treatment can be identified and appropriate treatment can be given at the right time. For carriers with negative viral quantification, a check-up every 6-12 months is usually sufficient. For patients with elevated viral quantification, they should be examined every 3-6 months. Routine checkups include liver function, AFP, hepatitis B five, HBV DNA, ultrasound and other items.
