Introduction to depression

According to the World Health Organization, 34 million people in the world suffer from depression. Although depression is not a life-threatening disease, people who suffer from it suffer so much that the suicide rate is very high, and it has become the first cause of death and attempted suicide. From the perspective of psychiatry, depression has light and severe, light depression, also known as neurotic depression, is closely related to mental stimulation and personality; heavy depression, also known as endogenous depression, may be closely related to changes in neurochemical transmitters in the brain. The main manifestations: 1, interest reduction: life interest is reduced, even the previous special favorite activities are also a sharp decline in interest, rarely from the pastime entertainment to experience the fun. The mountain and sea food, like a light meal; flowers and birds, but the scenery is sad. Even chess, painting and calligraphy, and sex and horses have lost their previous appeal. 2, hope is reduced: in their view, the future is gray and uncertain. They also want to move forward, but the goal is difficult to find; also eager to succeed, but the light is rare. Sometimes, they also try to work hard, but feel difficult, no courage and perseverance to achieve, and therefore feel disappointed and helpless. 3, less energy: they often feel tired and exhausted, more strenuous physical activities, but also can not carry out more complex mental thinking, deeply depressed, unable to concentrate. 4, self-confidence is reduced: they tend to self-evaluation is too low, presumptuous, self-abasement, and therefore avoid people, hesitant to go forward. Often low self-esteem, self-blame, regret. Guilt. Although they are tired of life, but the fear of death, and thus caught in a painful dilemma, the idea of suicide is common. However, they often have a lot of worries and want to die but are afraid of death. Once depression has occurred, it should be diagnosed and treated early. The first thing to emphasize is that depression is a treatable disease, and after treatment, it can be restored to its pre-morbid level of functioning. Patients and their families should not avoid taking medicine to avoid delaying the disease. There are many methods of treatment, including psychotherapy and medication. In psychotherapy, psychotherapy (cognitive psychotherapy) is more effective for changing the way patients perceive the problem, and in medication, there are many drugs to choose from, such as doxepin, promethazine, amitriptyline, fluoxetine, sellett, and pelargonium, etc. The effect is good. The first three drugs have relatively large side effects, but the price is cheap; while the last three have fewer adverse effects, but expensive. If you need treatment, be sure to go to a specialist hospital, such as the Institute of Mental Health of Hunan Medical University, to avoid misdiagnosis and wrong treatment.
