What is the common sense of decoction of Chinese medicine

Decoction is best done in a casserole, sand pot, enamel pot, avoid using iron. Before decoction, it is best to add cool water and soak for about 1 hour before decoction. The amount of water should be appropriate according to the size, weight and taste of the drug, and should generally be soaked through the surface of the drug for 5 minutes to an inch, i.e. 1.5 cm to 3 cm. If there is no special designation, each dose of medicine should be decocted three times, the first decoction (first decoction) should be decocted for 20 minutes after the liquid boils, the second decoction and the third decoction should be decocted for 15 minutes after the liquid boils. For tonic drugs and hard drugs, the decoction can be made for 5 minutes to 10 minutes more, while for relieving the symptoms and lax drugs, the decoction can be made for 10 minutes less. Decoct with martial fire (high fire) before boiling, and with civil fire (low fire) after boiling. If “first decoction” is indicated in the prescription, decoct for 10-20 minutes first (or as directed by the doctor) before adding other herbs. If it is stated “after”, then after the other drugs have been decocted for 15 to 20 minutes, then add the drugs and decoct for 5 to 10 minutes. If “decoction in cloth” is indicated, wrap it in a gauze bag and then put it into the pot with the other herbs. If “dissolve” (melt) is indicated, the decoction should be dissolved and taken together. If it is indicated as “punching” (divided into punching), the decoction should be served with the soup. The decoction should be mixed three times to obtain a total of 400ml to 500ml of medicinal juice. If the amount of medicine is too large, more liquid can be taken as appropriate; if it is difficult to take the medicine, the liquid can be concentrated to the right amount; for children, it can be concentrated to half the amount or as prescribed by the doctor. If there is no special designation, the medicinal solution obtained from three decoctions should be mixed and divided into three portions and taken in three warm doses, i.e., once in the morning and once in the evening, usually more than half an hour apart from mealtime. Topical Chinese medicine must be used as prescribed by the doctor, and the amount of water depends on the specific situation.
