Focus on Obstetric Issues Detailed Series (2) – Parent-to-child transmission of viral hepatitis B

Parent-to-child transmission (PPT) is one of the modes of vertical transmission, in which a male HBV infected person can transmit the virus to his offspring either through germ cells or through contact with his spouse, who can then transmit the virus vertically to his offspring. However, for a long time, father-to-child transmission has been covered by mother-to-child transmission and intra-family contact transmission, and has not been given enough attention. 2005 He Jinqiu’s study suggests that the father of a person with HBV is more prone to father-to-child vertical transmission. although father-to-child transmission of HBV has been basically determined, the rules and characteristics of the transmission of HBV to the father-to-child transmission are still not very clear. If the test found that some infected people sperm HBV DNA negative, may be due to the sperm carrying HBV is not continuous but intermittent, the influence of other factors may also lead to the father’s sperm HBVDNA negative results, and so on, need to be further studied.
