High blood sugar ketoacidosis in pregnant women is not a cause of type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is a syndrome of metabolic disorders, hyperglycemia caused by an absolute lack of insulin. The main causes are defects in the autoimmune system, genetic factors, or certain viral infections, such as the rubella virus, mumps virus, and others. This does not include ketoacidosis. In addition, type 1 diabetes may cause manifestations of ketoacidosis, but the presence of ketoacidosis does not necessarily mean that it is type 1 diabetes. It can also be caused by starvation, fasting, alcohol consumption, or severe pregnancy reactions. Pregnant women with hyperglycemia and ketoacidosis should actively cooperate with the doctor’s treatment to correct the acidosis, supplement insulin if necessary, and correct the water and electrolyte imbalance to avoid adverse consequences.
