Long-term topical glucocorticoid treatment for female vulvar leukoplakia

Topical glucocorticosteroids are the first-line treatment of choice for the treatment of female sclerosing moss (commonly known as leukoplakia vulgaris). However, many patients with female sclerosing moss are always concerned about the side effects of hormones during the use of topical hormones. 2015 issue 10 of the leading international dermatology journal JAMA
Dermatology published an article titled: Long-term management of sclerosing moss in adults with female sclerosis.
A prospective cohort study of 507 patients. The authors found that the long-term use of topical glucocorticosteroids (at least 2 years) in 507 patients with sclerosing lichen planus resulted in significantly better treatment outcomes in patients with better topical hormone compliance than in those with poorer compliance. It was also found that long-term application of topical glucocorticosteroids had essentially no significant side effects. From this study, it can be seen that patients treated with topical hormones need not worry too much and use them reasonably according to medical advice.
