Vulvar leukoplakia includes vulvar leukoplakia, vulvar leukoplakia, or vulvar dystrophy, which was previously thought to be a vascular dystrophy, but with further understanding of the disease, it has not been found to be any of the above alterations, but rather, it is a condition whereby the vulvar skin and mucosal tissues undergo pigmentary changes and degeneration. Because the vulvar skin and mucosa of patients with sclerosing moss and squamous epithelial hyperplasia are often white, they are called vulvar leukoplakia, which is a vulvar intraepithelial non-tumor-like lesion. Sclerosing moss and squamous epithelial cell hyperplasia in different years due to its clinical, pathological understanding of different and several changes in its name, the earliest had been called vulvar leukoplakia, leukoplakia vulvovaginitis, vulvar dryness, proliferative or atrophic vulvovaginitis, neuromuscular dermatitis, sclerosing and atrophic tundra and so on. Because of the confusion over the name of the disease, the International Society for the Study of Vulvar Diseases (ISSVD) referred to them collectively as “chronic vulvar dystrophy” in 1975. In recent years, the understanding of vulvar intraepithelial non-tumor-like lesions continues to deepen, and in fact did not find vulvar lesions in the presence of a clear vascular neurotrophic disorders, for this reason, in 1987, the International Society for the Study of Vulvar Diseases (ISSVD) and the International Society of Gynecologic Pathologists (ISGYP) to jointly discuss and formulate a new vulvar dermatosis classification. Precautions for vulvar leukoplakia: 1, loose, breathable cotton underwear should be worn in daily life, avoid wearing chemical fiber underwear; 2, should keep the affected area dry, ventilated and cool; 3, should not be excessive washing of the vulva, lukewarm water washing, do not use too hot water; 4, should pay attention to the stress of daily life and the regulation of emotions, to keep the emotions optimistic and cheerful; 5, avoid sexual life during the treatment. Treatment of vulvar leukoplakia: The color of vulvar skin becomes white, no matter itchy or not, should go to the hospital for examination, pills whose skin has thickening, roughness, bulging, ulcers, rupture, and hard knots should be more alert, and can be treated with surgery if necessary. The development of vulvar leukoplakia is slow, in the past, it was thought that the chance of cancer was big, and more surgical resection was used, but now it is not advocated for surgical treatment. In the advanced stage, the vaginal opening may be contracted and narrowed, and the vulva may atrophy, the clitoris atrophies, and the surrounding tissues lose elasticity. Since “vulvar leukoplakia” is stubborn, it is necessary to insist on long-term treatment and regular follow-up. Follow-up time of 3 to 6 months is better, after insisting on the treatment, generally can achieve more satisfactory results.
