What to do about dry eyes

In recent years, due to long-term use of computers, air pollution and other reasons, the number of dry eye patients is increasing, and it is conservatively estimated that there are at least 30 million people suffering from dry eye in China. Dry eye is a disease in which the conjunctiva and corneal epithelium cannot maintain normal function due to a deficiency in the quality or quantity of the pre-corneal tear film. Symptoms of dry eye.
Dry eye symptoms vary widely among individuals. Most patients complain of a foreign body sensation in the eye, a burning sensation and general eye discomfort. These discomforts are often evidence of dry eye, as the surface of the cornea is littered with sensory nerve endings. A significant percentage of patients have photophobia and intermittent blurring or other vision problems. Patients with dry eye often complain that their eyes tire easily, making reading and watching television difficult. The inability to tolerate corneal contact lens wear is also a symptom of dry eye. Sometimes, a patient with mild or moderate dry eye will not experience significant discomfort if they do not wear corneal contact lenses. Wearing corneal contact lenses can disturb the balance of tear film secretion and distribution, resulting in intolerance of corneal contact lenses. If you have abnormal eye sensations in your daily life, you need to be checked for dry eye. By abnormal sensations, we mean that the patient is sensitive to air currents, wakes up at night or early in the morning with severe dry eyes, and cannot tolerate smoke. On the contrary, some dry eye patients complain of tearing or tearing, which may sound contradictory, but in fact the discomfort of dry eye may stimulate a reflexive increase in tear production, the same as when a foreign body or an abrasion is on the surface of the eye.
Dry eyes arise from the following causes.
1.Decrease in tear quality due to physiological reasons such as advanced age, lack of sleep, and mental stress.
2, taking some of the antihypertensive drugs and some psychostimulants have an impact on tear production, such as taking paracetamol has a harmful effect on the production of tears, insulin and certain current contraceptives can reduce tear production.
3, due to long time engaged in computer operation, car driving, reading and other fine work, the number of transient eyes decreased, causing a decrease in tears.
4, due to the dry environment, caused by the evaporation of tears too strong.
5, due to contact lenses, allergic conjunctivitis, atmospheric pollution, ultraviolet light and other reasons, and caused by the reduction of tears, the quality of decline.
  How to prevent.
1, do not blink. Blink often, blink at least 4—5 times / min.
2, do not blow too long air conditioning. Avoid air currents blowing over the seat and place tea near the seat to increase the surrounding humidity.
3, eat more fruits, vegetables, dairy products, fish and other vitamin-rich foods.
4, maintain good living habits, get enough sleep, do not stay up late.
5, avoid long continuous operation of the computer, pay attention to the intermediate rest. Usually 1 hour of continuous operation, rest 5 & mdash; 10 minutes. When resting, you can look far away or do vision care exercises.
6.Keep a most appropriate posture, so that the eyes flat or mildly downward looking at the fluorescent screen.
7.When the room is dark, turn on the fluorescent light to relieve the concentration of screen light on the eyes; the light of the surrounding environment should be soft, the brightness of the computer screen should be appropriate and the clarity should be good, and the height of the table and chair should match the height of the computer.
8, if you would have less tear secretion, eyes are prone to dryness, in front of the computer is not suitable for the use of contact lenses, to wear frame glasses. People who wear contact lenses in front of the computer, it is also best to use varieties with a high degree of oxygen permeability.
9, for female friends, it is recommended to avoid heavy makeup.
  Avoid treatment misconceptions.
Many friends go to the general drugstore on their own to buy some eye drops to drop, very few people can go to a professional hospital. Eye drops into the eyes, temporarily feel comfortable, think that everything is fine, in fact, such irresponsible behavior will only bring more damage to the eyes. In fact, some of our commonly used eye drops contain preservatives, antibiotics, etc., which are harmful to the eyes for long-term use! For example, chloramphenicol can cause leukopenia and even aplastic anemia.
Therefore, it is advisable to go to the hospital and use professional treatment for dry eye drops, which have a long time moisturizing and lubricating effect on the eyes and help repair damaged corneoconjunctival epithelial cells.
